Samuel Stevenson and Sons was founded in 1886 and is the longest established Architectural Practice in Northern Ireland. Originally based in Royal Avenue, Belfast the Practice now operates from offices bought in 1972 in Greenwood Avenue, Belfast.

The firm is a medium sized practice with three qualified Architectural Directors under the overall direction of Peter Niblock, who became a Partner in 1989 and since 2000 has been the Senior Partner and more recently the Managing Director following the incorporation of the Practice in January 2004.

To remain successful over such a long period of time the Practice has had to adapt to changing market demands and procurement methods whilst steadfastly pursuing a policy of professionalism to Clients and Consultants alike. Our reputation has been founded on the production of many first class well designed buildings across a wide spectrum of categories which take site context and the client brief into consideration, and are always consistent with both programming and cost targets and good construction practice. In deliberately avoiding a ‘house style’ Samuel Stevenson and Sons offers a flexible approach to the design process, free of preconceptions, resulting in tailored designs to meet the most exacting requirements of individual Clients.

The size of the Practice allows individual Directors the opportunity to retain an ongoing relationship with Clients on Projects from commencement to completion. In addition to the Directors we employ a strong complement of professional and technical staff. On each Project the Architectural team remains with the Project for its duration ensuring that Staff are always available, who are fully conversant with the day to day issues of the design, tendering and construction processes. In addition to the Project Teams the Practice has in house expertise in the preparation of Feasibility Studies, Economic Appraisals and Master Planning and employs Planning Supervisors, Access Auditors and Technical Staff to supplement the service to our Clients.

We have our own in-house Quality Assurance System in accordance with BS ISO 9001 since 1993 and an Environmental Management System in accordance with BS ISO 14001 since 2005 based on accredited systems of internal audits. We also have Professional Indemnity cover in excess of £5 million for each and every claim. With significant annual investment we are at the leading edge of computer technology and are fully equipped for both 3D visualisation and 2D drafting and administration.

The Practice has received the award for ‘Innovation in Building Design from the R.S.U.A. and actively promotes the merits of environmentally sustainable designs to our Clients together with a recognition of the effects on life cycles costs, maintenance and efficiency.
